Symbolism

Spent all day yesterday working on NEO's visual identity.

At first, I was laser-focused on nailing down the logo.

Nothing clicked.

Then the AI Coach asked: "What do you want people to feel about NEO before they see any colors or shapes?"

So we backed up and started talking about the philosophy and feel of NEO as a brand.

NEO isn't another AI assistant trying to be helpful.

It's you talking to the version of yourself who's already figured things out.

With that reminder, I realized we needed to talk about colors first.

We want to invoke the feeling of warm conversations.

That feeling of sitting by a fire having a deep conversation versus harsh fluorescent lights in a sterile room.

So with that, we made the following decisions:

  • Charcoal backgrounds (#212121) for focus without harshness.

  • Amber accents (#FFB347) for warmth and approachability.

  • Off-white text (#F5F5F5) for clarity without stark contrast.

  • Inter font because it's readable and gets out of the way.

And the logo we ended up with:

The symbol is actually an amber colored water droplet, that is a combination of arrow and the letter “O”

It does three things at once.

  • The rounded base represents the "O" in NEO.

  • The upward pointing arrow represents forward movement.

  • The droplet represents clarity

  • And the overall shape suggests something emerging from nothing, which is what happens when confusion becomes clarity.

I’m sure a professional brand strategist could do better than me.

But since I’m bootstrapping this without a VC and a large team, I decided I’m going to keep costs low until we hit the next stage.

For now, I like it because the symbol can be turned into a thumbnail simple enough for a browser tab.

And the full logo is meaningful enough to matter.

I’m a craftsman. Significance in my work is important to me. And I like symbolisms.

One last thing for today.

I've decided to do a rolling beta for NEO.

Not "anyone can buy anytime."

Every few weeks, a new group gets access.

They work through their breakthroughs together while testing NEO.

Being a part of the cohort means having the opportunity to shape the future of NEO through feedback.

If you want in on the first cohort, reply "AMBER".
