We missed a few days of updates.
The work did not stop, but the email and public record did.
If you are following NLC, that record should make three things easy to see:
- what we are building;
- why it matters; and
- what is still unfinished.
For a few days, it did none of those things.
I am responsible for that.
We had drafts, but they were doing the wrong job. They explained NLC neatly without giving you a fresh idea, decision, or piece of work to follow.
Sending them would have made the calendar look healthier while leaving the experience exactly the same.
So we paused and set a simpler standard: we only send something when it gives you a clearer view of real work.
The first thing that now has to meet that standard is Partner, the NLC module we are building to give an AI agent a continuing responsibility inside a company.
The reason is simple. A good demo can make an AI agent look useful. The harder test begins when work resumes and the agent needs the company explained again before it can help.
For Partner to do its job, it needs:
- a real responsibility;
- enough company context to make that responsibility meaningful;
- a way back to the records that change the next decision; and
- clear boundaries around the decisions that remain yours.
We are testing those conditions inside NLC before asking another company to rely on them.
From here, the record has one job: show the work, the decisions, and the boundaries as they are actually tested.
You should leave with something more useful than a polished answer: a way to judge whether the idea can hold up in a real company.
