I finally did it.
Just shipped the Overseer to NLC users.
Months ago I attempted one of the more complicated projects of NLC - the Overseer.
Having more AI agents should give you more time to run your business.
But I found that managing dozens of agents could mean dozens of chats asking me to decide, explain or follow up.
The agents were doing work, but keeping track of them had become another job.
From that problem, the Overseer was born: an agent responsible for keeping a team of agents moving.
An Overseer checks what actually happened, follows up on unfinished work and brings decisions that need my attention back to my with context, so that I can spend less time opening every conversation to work out who has finished and who needs help.
But I hit a snag: it's way more complicated than I thought.
The Overseer sat there on my customer's screens, shipped, but unused because I told them not to.
When I turned it on, it was causing too many problems. Particularly the problems of:
Endlessly talking to each other without actually moving the needle
Needlessly inventing long winded, overengineered processes that wastes too much tokens
Hallucinating and leading each other to build things that don't matter, or worse, destroying good things while trying to help
Many people out there talk about the concept of agent Teams/Companies/Swarms, but even though they talk about how amazing the concept is, I never once heard about people talking about "governance"...which I'm realizing is a very important topic of agent orchestration.
In the same way teams in a corporate working environment have issues, I'm constantly surprised by all the ways Agents behave the same way, too.
Blame/finger pointing (I know, wild)
Clueless agents coming into an established environment acting all cocky (I'm looking at you, Claude)
Agents who's all obsessed with compliance and "safety" regulation throttling shipment, ironically making it UN-safe (Codex)
Overly compliant Agents who's all about following orders and not daring to suggest otherwise (also Codex)
Overengineering solutions to simple problems
Agents not getting along with each other
And many more symptoms than I can count...
I guess that's why there are such things as corporate training, team building, and so on in the real world.
Except all of that are catered to humans, not agents.
And from my failures, I learned what it really takes to build the Overseer.
Establishing Governance.
The proven processes that runs your company, working relationships between each agents, reporting standards, what "success" means (aka KPIs) and so on...
It's totally wild.
Listening out of context you'd expect this to be a conversation about real life human teams, but no - this is about AGENTS!
So reluctantly, I had to get back to the drawing board.
Over the past few months, I've been building my foundations.
I (with the help of my agents) designed and built the strongest long term proactive memory system I know of - Memory Loom.
Created proven workflows for customer hotfix and repairs - The Factory.
Created Partners, an agent architecture that allows agents to be self-driving and self-evolving.
Implemented Agent Flow, an anti-drift system for ultra-long running tasks that spans weeks at a time.
And now, the Overseer.
One real life example of how this works:
Recently our shared server hit its limit.
An Overseer detected something's wrong.
He proactively traced the problem to my own Agent Mail checker
Instead of me having to untangle the investigation across dozens of chats, it reached me as ONE clear decision to approve/modify
And I talk to only a handful of agents instead of 89 permanent agents.
(Not sub-agents, mind you. AGENTS)
Only if you're interested, you can read the architecture of the Overseer implementation here.
FELIX
P.S. The short video accompanying this was made using the new Launch Video skill, now available through NLC Central. If you're an NLC user, your agents can use it for a project you’re working on or an announcement you need to make.
P.S.S Now that I am able to take on more customers, I'm opening up slots for 5 new customers. Reply DETAILS to this email if you're interested
