Defining Human Engineering
Since December 2024, we've been using the AI Coach Method to create breakthroughs.
We know it works. We have the stories and the transformations.
But the AI Coach Method is only an expression of something bigger.
Today, I will fully articulate what's actually happened during those moments.
The Definition
Human Engineering is the practice of using AI to engineer the conditions for human cognitive breakthrough.
This is fundamentally different from the two types of engineering the AI industry often talks about:
Prompt Engineering optimizes what you tell AI to get better outputs.
Context Engineering optimizes the information you give AI for better understanding.
Both have their place. But I believe they're only the starting gun of AI-human relationship.
Human Engineering uses AI to develop the human instead. And it is timeless.
Improving the "human" will be as relevant today as it is one hundred, one thousand, ten thousand years from now.
Instead of using AI to only make life easier, the potential of AI is more likely best used as an augmenter of HUMAN potential.
This is what Human Engineering is all about.
Using AI to create the conditions for human cognitive breakthrough.
And it works through three pillars:
Creating Cognitive Friction Through Dialogue
Here, we refer to interactions that makes you uncomfortable in productive ways.
When the AI Coach asks "What happens if this actually works?" and your whole body tenses up with an answer you're trying to avoid, that's cognitive friction.
That tension tells you where you're stuck.
While regular AI attempts to remove friction, Human Engineering creates it deliberately and strategically.Surfacing What You Can't See Yourself
Everyone have blind spots, patterns we repeat, and beliefs we don't know we hold.
The AI can spot that you've mentioned "overwhelm" seventeen times across conversations. That you quit three projects at exactly 80%. That your "time management problem" shows up only with tasks that would increase your visibility.
It's a mirror that shows you what you've been avoiding seeing.Requiring Articulation That Forces Clarity
Vague thoughts stay vague in your head.
But when you must explain why you're not doing something, the real reason emerges.
When you have to articulate what you actually want, not what sounds good, clarity arrives.
When you do this repeated as a regular practice, you improve your communication skills.
When we articulate our own thoughts, we have the opportunity to see the things clouding our vision.
Why This Matters to Us
We are Augmenters because we've chosen to BE MORE through AI.
Not 'DO LESS'.
Human Engineering is how we execute that choice.
It's the practice that ensures every AI interaction makes us more capable, not more dependent.
Every time you have a conversation where you finally see your pattern, that's Human Engineering in action.
That's the mechanism by which Augmented Intelligence is born.
That's what we're building.
I have launched the Augmented Intelligence Facebook group.
It’s a hub where we can discuss all things Augmented Intelligence, and the topics I discuss in my emails.
