Your email. Your messages. Your business. Your distractions.
In-person, those things physically don't exist in the room with you.
This isn't about willpower or discipline.
It's about environment.
When you do this online:
Your computer has 35 other tabs open.
Your phone is within arm's reach.
Your environment signals "work mode" not "reflection mode."
Leaving is free. Just close the tab.
When you do this in-person:
You traveled here. Sunk cost creates commitment.
Your work environment is physically elsewhere.
The room is designed for one purpose only.
Leaving means abandoning the time and money you invested to be here.
The quality of your thinking is directly proportional to the quality of your attention.
Online gives you divided attention pretending to be focused.
In-person removes the option to divide.
I've tried doing this process in my own office before.
It works, but not as well as when I did the same process during a 5D4N cruise.
Because my office reminds me of work. My brain automatically goes into "business mode" and I miss everything else.
A different physical space creates different thinking.
But it's not just about removing distractions.
It's about the people in the room with you.
When you're surrounded by others doing deep work on their lives, something shifts.
Someone asks a question you didn't think to ask yourself.
You hear someone share their struggle and realize you're not alone in yours.
You witness breakthroughs in real-time and it opens up possibilities you couldn't see before.
