The physical retreat ended yesterday.
Three days with entrepreneurs working through their 2026 plans.
And we all noticed a glaring pattern.
The people who are stuck were ones who never made reflection a priority.
They prefer to ‘go with the flow’
Only reflecting when something bad happens.
Result: They are still facing the same problems they faced 3 years ago.
It only became apparent when some (really tough) questions were asked.
But the people who made the most amount of progress in life:
They pause
They question themselves
They sat with uncomfortable truths
They let their thoughts go to things they wanted to skip past
They’ve made scheduled ‘reflection’ a non-negotiable part of their life
And they do so deeply and regularly
It reminds me of a Chinese saying older people like to use:
"I've eaten more salt than you've eaten rice."
It means experience trumps youth.
Age = wisdom.
Sounds logical.
Except it is totally wrong.
I’ve seen and met with plenty of people in their elder years who are living a life of compromise instead of a life that they wanted.
Because ten years without reflection is just the same year lived ten times.
We don't gain wisdom from time passing.
We gain wisdom from examining what happened during that time.
Reflection is what turns experience into learning.
Without it, we repeat the same patterns year after year and wonder why nothing changes.
We make the same mistakes.
Hit the same walls.
Set the same goals we abandoned last January.
Time passes, but we won't move forward.
Reflection is a necessity, not a luxury.
